Some highlights this week

Amazing Fantasy #5 – We’re finally getting some more information about exactly what Anya can do when it comes down to her or the bad guys, and she can throw down! Check it out to see exactly what the heck is going on with her.

Amazing Spider-Man #513 – Man, this story is racing 90 to nothing and the more you find out, the more it leaves you wondering exactly what’s going to happen. The ‘children’ out of Peter Parker’s past are strong and determined, and he is their target. This issue spells out why and the outcome is open to a myriad of possibilities. Definitely check out this story arc; it is one of the best Spider-Man stories in years. A must read!

Dr. Spectrum #3 – From the pages of Supreme Power comes the story of Joe Ledger, a military man, a soldier without equal, and what happens to him when alien technology takes him over. Is his will strong enough to win out over the new entity in his mind? The battle drags us through his past as he alternately tries to hunt the entity or hide from it. If you’re a fan of Supreme Power, this supplemental series definitely helps to explain what’s going on with this pivotal character. If you’re a Green Lantern fan, this is Marvel’s more “mature” answer to Green Lantern, and it’s an extremely interesting book. Give it a shot.

Green Lantern: Rebirth #1 – Hal Jordan is coming back! How? Well, don’t look to this book to explain anything yet. The first issue presents strange occurrence after strange occurrence as things begin to spin out of control. What is happening to The Spectre? Coast City reappeared? Hal Jordan steps out on the tarmac? What the heck is going on?! Hopefully this series will answer these questions, but the first issue does little more than make a kaleidoscope of your mind, focusing one moment and turning to a new image the next. A great book!

Unfortunately, three days before this book was released, DC announced that it had been sold out across the nation. They’ve already started up a second print, so more should be available soon.

Soulfire #2 – In the first issue of this new series from Michael Turner, we saw an archeological dig unearth what appeared to be a dragon skeleton. Then we saw images of a city overrun by an immense, dangerous fire-breathing dragon. I was pleasantly surprised by the first issue of this series, and the second issue looks good too. I’m certainly intrigued to see where this story goes. It has several of the elements that made Reign of Fire such a great movie, including some of the base dragon designs. Check this book out!
