Aquaman: Sword of Atlantis #40 – It’s not a new #1 issue, but Aquaman is starting over with this new issue. All you die-hard DC fans will want to at least take a look at this new beginning. DC swears this is going to get back to basics with the character. Keep the fingers of your water-hand crossed, folks!

Hellboy: Makoma #2 (of 2) – Hellboy in Africa continues! The first issue was decidedly…weird…but it’s awesome to get another dose of Hellboy after so long without, and it’s cool to see him fighting different foes than the Nazis. Can’t wait to see where he goes from here!

Infinite Crisis #5 – So, is DC going to rip up the last 20 years of their collective history and more or less start over where 1984/85 left off? It’s possible, but I doubt this shake-up will be that extensive. It’s definitely a possibility. A lot of titles are being cancelled or restarted after this book winds down, and there are a lot of individual and team shake-ups in the works too. How exactly does that Earth 2 Superman tie into it all?!

Ms Marvel #1 – One of Marvel’s most misused characters of the past 15 years is getting another chance, and Marvel is going all out to impress with this new series. This ex-Avenger is going solo, and she’s out to make herself what she realized she should be: the best superhero on the planet. In House of M, she got her wish – she was the best – now that reality has kicked back in, she’s got to start earning that all over again. Story and art both look really good – definitely check this one out…

Thunderbolt Jaxon #2 – The first issue of this book flew in waaaaaaay under the radar, but it was really, really good. Three kids in Britain, all best friends, are digging around in some old church ruins with a metal detector, looking for old treasure. They find it. Buried under the flagstones of the weathered floor are a belt, a crown, and a torc (an ancient symbol of royalty). The weather turns bad, so all they run back home, and one of the kids discovers there’s more to his piece of the loot than just a nice shine. I can’t wait to get my hands on the second issue!

Ultimates 2 #10 – Where, oh where has this book been?!?!?! No matter, it’s here now! Time to find out how in the world Cap, Iron Man, and the rest of the Ultimates are going to pull their fannies out of the fire and save the United States from certain destruction. Keep your fingers crossed for your favorite characters, everyone! It’s rumored that not everyone will survive this.

X-Factor #4 – Man, this book is good! Layla Miller, she who “knows stuff,” is creeping me out, but Peter David is really delivering with this series, and I, for one, am most anxious to see where this book is heading. If you’re not reading this series, you really need to pick it up and give it a shot. It’s worth it.

See you at Haven!

Astonishing X-Men #13 – Season 2 of Astonishing X-Men is underway! Joss Whedon’s awesome take on everyone’s favorite mutants finally picks back up and gets rolling. The first 12 issues were the best that the X-Men have been in years; this set of 12 promises to be just as good, if not better. But then, you all knew that already.

Green Lantern #9 – Having Hal Jordan back sure is nice. He IS Green Lantern. This series has been blowing people’s socks off, and if you’ve ever liked the Emerald Knight, then you should definitely check this book out. Seriously. It’s good. Don’t just take my word for it; read it for yourselves…

Supergirl #5 – Is it just me, or did #4 of this book just come out last week?! Despite what I said about snagging a copy for myself before they disappeared, I wasn’t able to do it. This book just sells out too darn fast. Maybe I’ll be able to sneak one this week…

Ultimate Wolverine vs Hulk #2 – FINALLY!! After that awesome first issue, this book is finally shipping. I can’t wait to dig into this issue and see what exactly transpires that got Wolverine to the point where he got freakin’ ripped in half by a really ticked off Hulk. This book is written by one of the creators of the ultra mega-hit TV show, LOST, by the way. That explains a lot, doesn’t it?

Warlord #1 – The Warlord is finally back! The title made famous by Mike Grell in the 80’s is being revived by fabulous writer Bruce Jones and superstar artist Bart Sears. That alone should compel you to pick it up. However, if that doesn’t suffice, check this out: a fighter pilot is going along, doing his thing, when his plane crashes and he finds himself in an arcane world of sword and sorcery. He doesn’t know that yet, of course; he’s just lost and a lot of weird things are happening. When he realizes he’s stuck there, he makes the best of it and does his best to survive in this completely alien world. Yes, this book is going to be flat-out awesome!

Wolverine #39 – This story arc, a continuation of the ground-breaking Origin story from a couple of years ago, is fantastic. The story is great, the art is great, and there’s no way you should be missing this story! If you’ve ever been a Wolverine fan, you definitely need to be reading this book…

GI Joe: America’s Elite vol. 1 TP – This new GI Joe series has been as good or better than GI Joe has ever been…and this from a lifelong fan of the old comics and the toys. I love me some GI Joe! This new series is very well written and the art work, though highly stylized and very different, is awesome. I highly recommend this new series, and the first trade is a great way to get started!!

Giant Size Ms. Marvel #1 – With the new Ms. Marvel series coming out soon, Marvel thinks it might be a good idea to dredge up some key stories from her past and reprint them so folks can be caught up on the character before the first issue of her new series hits the shelves. Give it a look-see if this character interests you at all…

Justice #4 – Alex Ross’s new JLA story has been a little weird and occasionally hard to follow so far, but it’s been really good too. I’ve enjoyed the heck out of it. What the heck are these villains up to? Since when are they doing the right thing and helping people out?! I think they’re setting up one heck of a con, but we’ll have to read the book to find out. And, as usual, Alex Ross’s artwork is captivating. Definitely give this title a shot!

New Avengers #16 – It’s always a happy week when New Avengers ships! I’ve been enjoying this book immensely – if you’re not reading it, hop on the bandwagon already, because it’s extremely good. Don’t have a lot more to say about that at the moment.

Serenity TP – That’s right, we sold out of it in less than 20 minutes when it came in two weeks ago. Hopefully this time it will last a day or two before disappearing off the shelves! All you Firefly and Serenity fans, come in and pick up the trade now! It will fill you in on the events that transpired between the end of the show and the beginning of the movie. I conjure you can handle it.

Ultimate Fantastic Four #27 – Unlike Ultimate X-Men, Ultimate Fantastic Four has been kicking tail and taking names lately. This is one of the better books in the Ultimate universe these days, and it has been all kinds of fun. The introduction of Ultimate Namor in the last story arc absolutely knocked me off my feet; I can’t wait to see where they go from here…

X-Men: Apocalypse/Dracula #1 – Normally, I’d say that any crossover featuring Dracula automatically sucks. Historically, this has been an accurate assessment. Now, I may regret suggesting that people give this title a once over, but, inexplicably, my gut instinct says this book is going to be good. Cross your fingers, everyone!

X-Men: Deadly Genesis #4 – Now, I know that this book rocks! This series has been absolutely one of the best X-Men stories in years, and I’m thrilled to see the X-Men, at least in one of their titles, achieve the level of story telling we were all spoiled to years and years ago – you know, before the books all started going down the toilet. This book gets my absolute highest X-recommendation!!

Batman: LOTDK #200 – This landmark series finally reaches its 200th issue! When this series first started, it was a darker, more mature-themed Batman book, and nobody thought it would last. Well, with this issue, it proves all the nay-sayers wrong! Of course, the book isn’t the same today as it was back then; it’s gone through a great many stylistic changes, but if you want to pick up a collectible issue of a long-running series, this may be a good one to start with.

Ghost Rider #6 – This limited series comes to a close with this issue, which is going to sadden a lot of people. Anyone who has ever had the slightest interest in the fiery skulled Ghost Rider has been wowed by this series; the story definitely has a different take on the Ghost Rider character, and the artwork is absolutely incredible. I think there will be more stories to come…hopefully the movie, starring Nicholas Cage, will be as good as this series has been.

Marvel Zombies #3 – I thought it couldn’t get much more grotesque than the first issue, but the second issue proved me wrong very quickly. And this issue looks like it will keep right on going in that same direction. This book is horribly grotesque, but, for whatever reason, I can’t help but read it. If you’re like me in that regard, you better pick this up fast; believe it or not, it’s selling out…

Son of M #3 – Quicksilver can’t stand being a normal human; so he’s trying to do anything he can think of, including stepping into the mutating Terragen Mists of the Inhumans! Is it bad that I’m really hoping he sprouts tentacles out of his nose or something instead of regaining his super speed? If only Black Bolt would whisper a sweet nothing or two in his ear, that would make me happy too.

Supergirl #4 – I almost forget this series exists, because it sells out so quickly, we never have any left for the back issue bins. The only thing I can think this means is that this series is awesome. Everyone I know who has been able to get their hands on a copy has verified this. I’m going to snag a copy myself this week if I have to hit someone over the head to do it!

Ultimate Extinction #2 – It’s the end of the world as we know it! It’s the end of the world as we know it! Everybody sing! C’mon! Okay, fine. Ultimate Gah Lak Tus is coming, and we don’t know what he is, but he’s been here all year long – man, no one is going with me on the songs today. Read this book to find out what the heck is going to happen to earth and see if the planet survives. Jerks.

X-Men: The 198 #2 – With only 198 mutants left in the world, there are bound to be some interesting consequences. House of M and the fall out from it have finally put the X-books back on the map – let’s hope the storylines are good enough to keep them there!
