Annihilation: Silver Surfer #1 – In answer to Infinite Crisis, Marvel is shaking up their long-forgotten cosmic characters with a massive crossover that, if it goes well, will no doubt launch a handful of new cosmic series. Silver Surfer is a long-time favorite character with a lot of folks, and this is a great chance to see him in action again. Check out the Annihilation books!

Archenemies #1 – Roommates don’t normally get along; that’s one of the joys of college. But what happens when one roommate is a superhero and the other is his archnemesis – and neither of them is aware of the others’ secret identity?! This tongue-in-cheek book looks like a good laugh. Pick it up and give it a read…

Clive Barker’s Great & Secret Show #1 – To be honest, I’m not sure why I ordered this book. Something in the description caught my attention and said that this book might actually be worth reading; so I’m going to give it a shot. Hey, I was right about the X-Men: Apocalypse vs. Dracula; it actually turned out to be good!

Marvel Zombies #5 (of 5) – The last issue of this bizarre and grotesque series is finally here! Find out what happens to Galactus, to what’s left of Black Panther, and to the rest of the universe. If we’re really, really lucky, we’ll also find out what these guys are all infected with and where it came from…

Moon Knight #1 – It’s here!!!!! Everyone should give this book a shot. Moon Knight is, in a way, Marvel’s answer to Batman, but they’ve never really known what to do with him. He’s gone through so many origin stories, it’s hard to keep up with not only who he’s supposed to be anymore, but if he’s even sane. This time around, however, I think Marvel is going to get it right. I don’t have any really good reason for thinking that other than a good hunch and David Finch’s beautiful art work on the book, but at least check out the first issue; it’s going to be great…

Annihilation Prologue – Marvel’s cosmic books are making a come-back, and they’re coming in fast and hitting hard! To get the jump on the big Annihilation event, check out this prologue; it’ll give you everything you need to know before the story blows up in your face and knocks you off your feet. I’ve got very high hopes for this story!

Batman: Year One Hundred #2 – I wasn’t expecting much out of the first issue, but this story just knocked me for a loop. It’s highly reminiscent of The Dark Knight Returns, and it’s got me anxious to read the next issue. If you missed the first part of this kick-butt story, don’t fret; we’ve still got a few copies available. Yeah, Pope’s artwork is weird and is definitely not my favorite, but the story is well worth it. Check this one out!

Conan: Book of Thoth #1 – One of Conan’s oldest enemies returns in this limited series; so climb aboard this bandwagon and enjoy the heck out of what should be a great story. The regular Conan series has been a real breath of fresh air, and I think Dark Horse has finally figured out how to do a Conan book right.

Painkiller Jane #1 – None of the promo materials for this book have hinted much about what’s going on in this book, but most of the reviews I’ve read have been very positive. This book is created by fan favorite Jimmy Palmiotti, so if you’ve liked his stuff before, you’ll probably like it now…Give it a look-see and let me know what you think.

Spike vs Dracula #1 – If you’re a Buffy fan, then you’ve been waiting on this moment for a while. As everyone knows, Dracula has owed Spike five quid for ages. I’m guessing that Spike is coming to collect in this story that pits Bram Stoker’s classic vampire against Joss Whedon’s very different creation. I’ve always wondered: what would a British vampire’s teeth really look like? 

Teen Titans Annual #1 – That’s right; annuals are back! If they’re done right, an annual is a great addition to a favorite monthly title. If they’re done wrong, they come off as just another way that the evil comic book company is trying to squeeze nickels out of you. This is Teen Titans, and the Teen Titans series has been kicking tail and taking names for the past couple of years; cross your fingers and hope that trend continues with this annual. I, for one, am looking forward to it.

Ultimate Extinction #3 – Here comes Ultimate Gah Lak Tus!! At long last, we’re going to find out what the heck the Ultimate version really is. Man, I hope it doesn’t destroy the earth and kill us all! Definitely check this out to see how the FF, X-Men, and Ultimates pull our fannies out of the fire and save our bacon!

X-Men: Apocalypse/Dracula #2 – Ah, the week of Dracula! Like I said before: under normal circumstances, you should run screaming from any crossover that includes Dracula, because, under normal circumstances, it will inherently suck. This series, however, has proven to be the exception. The first issue absolutely rocked, and it pits two great immortal characters against each other in a face-off for the ages. Definitely check this issue out!

This is a small week, but there are some big titles shipping, so be sure to come in and pick them up fast before they’re gone!

American Virgin #1 – Not quite sure what to make of this new Vertigo title; it’s about a self-professed virgin who has pledged himself to remain that way until marriage. He’s a big-time speaker all across the country on the subject, and he’s pushing the buttons of a lot of people who don’t like what he has to say – then he gets kidnapped and is sorely tempted. Sounds like a movie of the week, but it’s Vertigo, so there’s going to be weird thrown in there for good measure. Make of it what you will.

Fables #47 – This book is still going strong, and it’s one of the best reasons to be reading comic books today. The premise is unique, and the stories are cleverly and engagingly written. The artwork harkens back to a different, more indie era, but it suits this book nicely. All in all, if you’re not reading this, you should be. Pick up the trades and get caught up!

Fantastic Four: First Family #1 – Marvel’s first family kicks off a limited series that puts a little different spin on their origin. This is about the millionth time this story has been told, so it better be good. I’ve got a hunch this one will be, but it’s not a powerful hunch – more of a vague, pre-cognitive feeling – so you’ll have to check it out and let me know what you think.

GI Joe: America’s Elite #9 – This is GI Joe at its finest. Long-time fans and newcomers alike will enjoy this series; it’s hard-hitting and action-oriented, but really engaging on a character development level too. I am really, really digging this book!

Son of M #4 – What happens with Quicksilver now? He’s hunting down the de-mutantized Magneto, and things are about to get weird. Here’s hoping he’s not able to sneak Magneto into the Terragen mists of the Inhumans too; the last thing the world needs is a Magneto with different powers. But why is Quicksilver putting on Magneto’s helmet? Man, this looks like bad news for the Marvel U.

Ultimate Spider-Man #91 – Bendis & Bagley are closing in the all-time longest continuous run record set by Stan Lee & Jack Kirby on The Fantastic Four. When they reach issue #104, they will have officially taken the record. And the weird thing is, these stories are still as new and as fresh as they were when the series started. Ultimate Spider-Man is a great title, and is well worth reading every month (or every two weeks!) – this book comes out like clock-work!

X-Men: The 198 #3 – Mutants are being ‘protected’ by the US Government at Xavier’s School for the Gifted, and all 198 of them are stuck there, not allowed to leave, really – for their own protection, of course. Then Apocalypse shows up – did you think he was dead too? – and starts taking out Sentinels and offering these people the opportunity to join with him and kick-start the world into a new era – The Age of Apocalypse, Pt 2. You gotta watch this play out!
