This is a small week, but there are some big titles shipping, so be sure to come in and pick them up fast before they’re gone!

American Virgin #1 – Not quite sure what to make of this new Vertigo title; it’s about a self-professed virgin who has pledged himself to remain that way until marriage. He’s a big-time speaker all across the country on the subject, and he’s pushing the buttons of a lot of people who don’t like what he has to say – then he gets kidnapped and is sorely tempted. Sounds like a movie of the week, but it’s Vertigo, so there’s going to be weird thrown in there for good measure. Make of it what you will.

Fables #47 – This book is still going strong, and it’s one of the best reasons to be reading comic books today. The premise is unique, and the stories are cleverly and engagingly written. The artwork harkens back to a different, more indie era, but it suits this book nicely. All in all, if you’re not reading this, you should be. Pick up the trades and get caught up!

Fantastic Four: First Family #1 – Marvel’s first family kicks off a limited series that puts a little different spin on their origin. This is about the millionth time this story has been told, so it better be good. I’ve got a hunch this one will be, but it’s not a powerful hunch – more of a vague, pre-cognitive feeling – so you’ll have to check it out and let me know what you think.

GI Joe: America’s Elite #9 – This is GI Joe at its finest. Long-time fans and newcomers alike will enjoy this series; it’s hard-hitting and action-oriented, but really engaging on a character development level too. I am really, really digging this book!

Son of M #4 – What happens with Quicksilver now? He’s hunting down the de-mutantized Magneto, and things are about to get weird. Here’s hoping he’s not able to sneak Magneto into the Terragen mists of the Inhumans too; the last thing the world needs is a Magneto with different powers. But why is Quicksilver putting on Magneto’s helmet? Man, this looks like bad news for the Marvel U.

Ultimate Spider-Man #91 – Bendis & Bagley are closing in the all-time longest continuous run record set by Stan Lee & Jack Kirby on The Fantastic Four. When they reach issue #104, they will have officially taken the record. And the weird thing is, these stories are still as new and as fresh as they were when the series started. Ultimate Spider-Man is a great title, and is well worth reading every month (or every two weeks!) – this book comes out like clock-work!

X-Men: The 198 #3 – Mutants are being ‘protected’ by the US Government at Xavier’s School for the Gifted, and all 198 of them are stuck there, not allowed to leave, really – for their own protection, of course. Then Apocalypse shows up – did you think he was dead too? – and starts taking out Sentinels and offering these people the opportunity to join with him and kick-start the world into a new era – The Age of Apocalypse, Pt 2. You gotta watch this play out!

See you at Haven!
