Black Coat: Call to Arms #2 – This Revolutionary War era superhero tale started off with a bang, and this issue should be at least as good. The artwork in this book is a vivid black and white palette of gorgeousness, and the story is pretty freakin’ cool too. I highly, highly recommend it. I’ve got copies of the first issue on back-order, so don’t be afraid to pick this one up just because it’s the second issue.

Buckaroo Banzai #1 – That’s right, all you fans of such ‘80s classics as The Time Bandits and The Dark Crystal, get ready to feast your eyes on this gem! Buckaroo Banzai swings to the paneled page in a first issue that promises to carry on the fun-loving, action-filled traditions of the classic movie. This should be worth it for the nostalgia factor alone.

Nextwave: Agents of HATE #5 – Okay, so it’s on the fifth issue. You should still pick it up. This book is hilarious. Pull a bunch of mainstream Marvel characters from days of yore, typically ones that were a little bit lame, pile them into a secret organization like SHIELD, call that organization HATE (run by Dirk Anger instead of Nick Fury), and you’ve got a book that’s funnier than a barrel of monkeys.

Secret Six #1 – DC is spinning out new series from Infinite Crisis and last year’s Identity Crisis like crazy people, but, so far, they’re working. This is yet another one, and it looks very promising, if you’re a DC loyalist. Check it out and let me know what you think of it.

X-Factor #7 – This series, written by Peter David, is AWESOME. It’s mutants, it’s detectives, it’s humor, it’s pathos, it’s scary, and it’s just plain good reading. Long-time fans of comics will remember Peter David’s penchant for writing stories that grab you on both an intellectual and an emotional level; this series is no different. This gets my highest recommendation!

See you at Haven!!
