Astro City: Samaritan Special – We don’t get new books from Astro City very often, but they are always, without fail, excellent books when they do come out. This special will be a great starting point for you to check out the world of Astro City if you’ve never been there before – I can pretty much guarantee that all previous visitors to Astro City will be returning with this issue. Once you go, you definitely want to go back! And we’ve also got the first trade from the original Astro City tale 10 years ago in stock!

Batman #655 – Hello, Grant Morrison and Andy Kubert! That’s right – the new era of Batman kicks off in this issue. I, for one, have been looking forward to this for a while. Grant Morrison is one of the most popular writers of the last 15 years, and Andy Kubert is one of the best artists in the business. Together, on of the flagship titles of comicdom, they ought to really knock everyone off their feet. Can’t wait to check this action out!

Captain America #20 – Captain America has been in really great form recently. A lot of people got tired of getting burned by hit and run Cap titles that started off well and then fell apart. This book shows no signs of doing that. It’s written by Ed Brubaker (Daredevil, X-Men: Deadly Genesis, Uncanny X-Men, etc.), with art by former CrossGen great, Steve Epting. So the stories are great and the art is beautiful. What more do you want from a comic book?!

Civil War: Front Line #4 – This is the story of a couple of reporters, one more or less embedded on each side of the Civil War fence, and that’s cool, but the story I’ve really been more interested in that’s running through these pages is the story of Speedball, the only surviving member of the New Warriors team after the Stamford Disaster that kicked off the whole Civil War thing in the first place. That has been awesome. And, truth be told, I’ve enjoyed this series more than the regular Civil War book.

Jack of Fables #1 – Fables gets its own spin-off series! Last year, we were treated to a story arc in the regular Fables book about Jack going off to Hollywood and blowing the lid off Tinsel Town. That story was…awesome. And now it’s being transformed into its own full-blown series. If you’ve always wanted to get in on the Fables goodness, here’s a great way to start on the ground floor with everyone else (then get caught up on the Fables Trades immediately!).

Wolverine #44 – Wolverine caught up to Nitro at the end of the last issue and got blown to bits, but we all know that’s never stopped Wolverine before, and it doesn’t look like it’s going to stop him now. Nitro is about to go out with a big bang of his own, I think. Definitely check this out if you’re following the Civil War storyline at all; this is one of the better books out there dealing with the subject!

See you at Haven!
