Annihilation #2 – Since I’m not a big fan of the cosmic books in general, this pick might be something of a surprise to you. Fair enough. But here’s the deal: I read Annihilation #1, and it was a really good story! The build-up to Annihilation, with four different 4-issue mini-series was a bit much - I didn’t bother to muddle through any of that snooze-fest (covers were very pretty, I admit) – but the first ‘real’ issue of Annihilation surprised me by being well worth the read; so I’m recommending it here. Pick it up!

Batman: Gotham by Gaslight GN – This is a new printing of one of the best Elseworlds stories to ever come from DC. This Victorian era take on Batman is fantastic, and Mike Mignola knocks this one out of the park! If you’ve really been jonesing for an amazing Batman story, your prayers are answered. This is a must-read for any fan of great story-telling.

Devi #1 – If you missed the first issue of Devi the first time around, I’ve managed to snag a couple more copies. This book from Virgin Comics will remind you mightily of CrossGen; definitely give this a whirl; this issue is a promising start, story-wise, and the artwork is gorgeous – again, highly reminiscent of CrossGen. Check it out!

Fables #53 – As always, Fables makes the recommendation list. This book is consistently amazing, which is no mean feat in today’s comic marketplace. If you like great stories and interesting characters thrown together with a little humor, a lot of whimsy, and a ton of intrigue weaving through a fascinating meta-plot, then why aren’t you reading this book?!?! Everyone should be reading this!

Sam Noir: Samurai Detective #1 – Sometimes a book looks so off the wall, I have to order it. This is one of those times. The title alone makes me interested, and the artwork looks very Humberto Ramos to me. For what is bound to be an interesting book, if nothing else, check this one out and let me know what you think.

Ultimates 2 vol 1: Gods & Monsters TP – With the arrival of this Trade this week, we now have trades in stock for the entire Ultimates run. If you like superhero books with incredible art, awesome story twists, and knock-down, drag-out violence, this is a book you’re going to need to read. Highly recommended!

Wolverine Origins #6 – Welcome back, Omega Red! One of the best new villains of the ‘90s is back, and he’s a little perturbed with everyone’s favorite Canucklehead. Prepare for a hard-hitting throwdown, boys and girls; this is going to be one heck of a fight. Plus, seeing a little of the origin story of Omega Red won’t hurt any either…

See you at Haven!
