American Splendor #1 – If you’ve read the autobiographical indie book before or if you’ve seen Harvey Pekar (the author/protagonist) portrayed by Paul Giamatti in the movie, then you’ve got an idea what this book is like and what it’s about. If not, well, it’s a weird, off-the-wall look at an odd man’s life. The stories aren’t usually great and the art work is certainly nothing to write home about, but there is something about this book that’s emotionally resonant. Give it a whirl if you’re in the mood for something guaranteed to be different.

GI Joe: Scarlett Declassified One-Shot – If you’ve enjoyed the previous Declassified books for the GI Joe characters, then you’ll want to be on board for this one as well; this ought to be a great peek into the background of one of the fan-favorite original Joes. You know I’ll be reading it!

Lone Ranger #1 – Normally, I might look at a book like this and never even consider ordering it, because it was based on a campy old TV western. Then, I might look at how they’re actually telling his story this time – the character of the Lone Ranger is getting a Dark Knight type of makeover, and this book is going to be good. I can’t provide an iron-clad guarantee, but I can tell you that I’m really looking forward to it – the John Cassaday cover isn’t hurting my enthusiasm at all either!

Marvel 1602: The Fantastick Four #1 – 1602 is back! Yeah, the last limited series was a disappointment, but this time, scribe Peter David (X-Factor, Hulk: The End, and a LOT more) is bringing us a variant tale of yesteryear, and it deals with the Fantastick Four, going up against Dr. Doom’s great-great-great-great-grandaddy: Count Otto von Doom. With Peter David writing it, there will be a lot of laughs, a lot of emotionally poignant moments, and a lot of action. Definitely give this one a look-see!

X-Men: Phoenix Warsong #1 – If you remember the excellent Phoenix Endsong limited series from a year or two back, this carries on events stemming from that book. This time around, the Phoenix entity is still looking for a host, and the Stepford Cuckoos, as they are affectionately known, are it. Can the Phoenix inhabit three people simultaneously? What about the two dead ones? The Phoenix has been known to bring people back from the dead a time or ten. Will all of the Five Who Are One be reunited, or what? This is one X-Book you won’t want to miss!!

See you at Haven!!
