Conan & the Midnight God #1 – The main Conan title has been ripping right along, and I’ve really been enjoying it a lot. The multiple mini-series that have spun out of it have been really hit or miss. In this one Conan has won the throne of Aquilonia and the hand of the beautiful Zenobia. With a kingdom to rule and an heir on the way, will the Cimmerian finally put up his sword for good? Don't bet on it. When his bride and country are attacked by a sinister Stygian sorcerer, Conan strikes back at Stygia with all his might--and the might of Aquilonia--in a move that threatens to throw all Hyboria into chaos! This book also features the long-awaited reunion of Violent Messiahs creators Joshua Dysart and Tone Rodriguez; so pick it up and give it a whirl; it’ll be a good read.

Helmet of Fate: Detective Chimp #1 - The World's Greatest Simian Sleuth is called in to investigate the murders of a new band of wannabe super-heroes when the Helmet of Fate enters his life! Written by Bill Willingham, creator of FABLES, this book will probably turn out to be good, which irritates me no end, because any book about a detective chimp ought to be bad on sheer principle. This is the first of a series of 1-shots about the Helmet of Fate. Get on board, DC Nation!

The Lost Books of Eve #1 - Journey back to a time when magic still thrived, dragons and fallen gods roamed the earth, and man was just a myth. The Garden of Eden was a place of perfect peace and tranquility. That is, until its keeper, Adam, went missing. Now, his newly created wife, Eve, must venture outside the safety of the Garden for the first time to go in search of her husband, all the while battling monsters, beast men, wizards, demons, and even the gods themselves. It's the fun and adventure of "Samurai Jack" mixed with the epic scope of "Lord of the Rings." According to the reviews, this book is good. I’m a little leery of it – I’ll have to check it out before I can give it a thumbs up or down.

Mike Carey’s One-Sided Bargains (1-Shot) - Two tales of dread. Two deals with the devil that can't end well. The original Faust legend rubs shoulders with a Victorian-era Gothic horror story about a little girl lost and the cultists who choose her as their sacrifice. Watch what happens when you don't read the small print before you sign your soul away…This new horror one-shot is by Mike Carey, current writer on X-Men and Ultimate Fantastic Four, with art by Mike Perkins, former CrossGen star and, most recently, penciler on Captain America and Union Jack. These stories will likely be freaky as all get out and a definite must read!

Spider-Man Reign #2 – If you liked the first issue of this bizarre post Civil War, futuristic, not-necessarily canonical Spider-Man story, then this one ought to appeal to you too. Things go from bad to worse, and the geriatric Spidey is going to have his trembling hands full. Sounds very weird, I know, but I found the first issue strangely compelling, and I’m looking forward to this one!

Ultimate Spider-Man #104 – Bendis and Bagley break Stan Lee and Jack Kirby’s record for consecutive issues by the same writer/artist team with this issue! Also, coincidentally, this issue is the climax of the freaktastic story Bendis has been spinning for the past little bit. All the Spider-Man clones, and there are a bunch of them, gang up with Peter Parker to get a little retribution from their creator: Dr. Octopus. But, as we just discovered in the last issue, Doc Ock has something up his sleeve that no one expected, and it’s about to get really ugly in what is sure to be a battle royal. Also, we’re getting exactly one copy of the very difficult to obtain variant cover – get in touch with me if you’re interested in it.

See you at Haven!
