Black Canary #1 (of 4) - Black Canary takes flight in a 4-issue miniseries written by Tony Bedard (52, several CrossGen Titles, Exiles, etc.) with art by Paulo Sequiera (Birds of Prey, Gypsy) & Amilton Santos! The League of Assassins tracks Black Canary to Star City in an effort to liberate the child, Sin, they believe to be the DCU's next greatest assassin. Black Canary has other plans for Sin's abilities and future, so you know there’s going to be a showdown coming. Just think of this as Black Canary’s bachelorette party.

Faker #1 (of 6) – College, Freshman Year. Yep, more faking goes on in this year than just about any other of your life. You fake your way through your love life, through classes that are suddenly over your head, through your new fraternity friendships – everything. Add a bunch of ruthless people with hidden agendas to that, and the fakery takes on a little more sinister possibility. Have the whole thing written by Mike Carey (Ultimate FF, X-Men) and have it published by DC/Vertigo, and you’ve got a series worth picking up. So pick it up!!!

GI Joe: America’s Elite #25 – Issue #25 falls on the year of GI Joe’s 25th anniversary, so this issue is a major tribute to everyone’s favorite action figures, whether you were a fan of the 12” versions of the 3 ¾” versions. In any case, this series, for all you folks not reading it, is absolutely first rate, and this issue is the culmination of a story that’s been building for quite a while now, so it’s going to rock. If you’re a GI Joe fan, but you haven’t checked out the comic in a while, it’s definitely time to give it another chance; it’s been phenomenal.

Haunted Mansion #6 – I’ve got more of these bad boys on the way! Featuring great art and a fun story by two of Haven’s own – Andy and Alice Price – you definitely need to pick this up! You couldn’t ask for a better chance to support local comics creators and friends, so pick up your copy ASAP. They’ll be happy to sign it for you too!

New Warriors #2 CWI – In the first issue of this cool new iteration of the New Warriors title, someone is running around and taking out bad guys, in defiance of Iron Man’s initiative plan. As you can imagine, Iron Man is ticked off – not only because it’s happening, but because the perpetrator is leaving a calling card at the scene: an NW graffiti tag. At the end of the first issue, we see the perpetrator run into someone we all thought long gone: Night Thrasher! He started the New Warriors once, and he’s out to do it again. He wants to clear their name and prove to Tony Stark that you don’t have to a SHIELD agent to do some good in this world…and he wants to poke Tony Stark in the eye while he’s doing it. I’m all for that.

Thor #1 – He’s baaaaaaaaaaack! You can’t keep a good Norse god down, I guess. The Thunder God is back, courtesy of J. Michael Straczinski and Olivier Coipel, so you know you’re going to want to pick this up! Oh, and does anyone else find Thor’s timing interesting? Who else in the Marvel Universe, besides Sentry or Silver Surfer, has a chance at stopping the rampaging Hulk?!?! I’m betting there’s a big battle in the works!!

Who Wants to be a Superhero: Feedback – That’s right, true believers! The winner of Stan Lee’s goofy, yet fun reality show from last summer is getting a one-shot book from Dark Horse! If you enjoyed the on-screen earnestness of Feedback (I was more of a Major Victory fan, myself), then tune in for the comic and have a good lighthearted laugh. No, this ain’t The Watchmen, but it’s fun. Check it out.

See you at Haven!

X-Men: First Class 2 #1

Boys #8 – After a long hiatus, the Boys are back on track! DC told Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson they couldn’t continue to publish this book because it was just too twisted for them, so Ennis and Robertson took their red-headed step-child to Dynamite Entertainment. The 1st TP and issue #7 came out last month and, happily, issue #8 is right on schedule. If you want to check this series out, let me know and I’ll order the TP for you!

Green Lantern: Sinestro Corps Special #1 – Hal Jordan has struggled to regain his reputation. Kyle Rayner has suffered great personal loss and reluctantly gained great power. Guy Gardner's trust in the Guardians is wavering. John Stewart's unbreakable loyalty soon will be tested. Together, these four men are the Green Lanterns of Earth…but why are so many Earthmen recruited into the Corps? What is their ultimate rolel in the future of the universe? And how will the secret of the rings' power threaten the Guardians and affect Hal Jordan's future? Sinestro was called the 'greatest' of the Green Lanterns; now the renegade has vowed to bring terror to the universe he once protected. The worst murderers, thieves and deviants in the universe have gathered into Sinestro's Corps for one purpose: to instill great fear. Armed with the truth behind Parallax, Sinestro's intergalactic insurgents strike hard and fast at the very heart of the Green Lantern Corps. The Sinestro Corps is about to change everything you know about the Green Lanterns. Fear them. Everyone else will. Plus, a 6-page backup story by Johns and Dave Gibbons – what more could you want?

Haunted Mansion #6 – Now, normally, I wouldn’t highlight issue #6 of a series that isn’t going to last much longer, but we’ve got good reason this time around: Andy Price, our resident professional comics artist, handles the art chores for one of the stories in this issue! Even better, the story was written by Andy’s infinitely better half, Alice! That’s right – you know these people! Come on out and buy a copy, then wait anxiously to get Andy and Alice to sign it for you! I bet they will…for a dollar. ;-)

Serenity TP – If you’re a fan of Joss Whedon’s shortlived but incredible Firefly TV show or of the follow-on movie, Serenity, and you haven’t read this story yet, get on the ball! This story bridges the gap between the TV show’s last episode and the movie. In other words, you NEED to read this!

Thunderbolts #115 – This is one of the most compelling comics out there right now. Warren Ellis manages to turn a bunch of low-level, B-grade superheroes into people you really care about, then he sets the government-controlled criminal team of the Thunderbolts on them and takes them down, all in the name of Superhero Registration. Iron Man would be proud. Give this series a chance; it is absolutely one of the best books Marvel is producing.

World War Hulk #1 (of 5) – If you missed World War Hulk #1 a couple of weeks ago, you get another shot at it! I managed to snag some more copies, and they are coming in this week. You DON’T want to miss this!

World War Hulk: Frontline #1 (of 7) – Just like Civil War: Frontline, this companion series follows the World War Hulk storyline from the perspective of two reporters, one embedded on each side of the controversy. In many ways, Frontline was a much better story than Civil War was last year, and this edition of Frontline is being written by Paul Jenkins again, so expect good things. Definitely pick this up!

World War Hulk: X-Men #1 (of 3) – Professor X is one of the Illuminati who launched Hulk into space in the first place, so you know he’s high on the list of people Hulk wants to take out. The X-Men aren’t real happy with Professor X right now, but they still don’t want someone else waltzing in and killing him, so this is going to be one heck of a fight.

X-Men #200 – Speaking of the X-Men, the adjectiveless series hits its landmark 200th issue this week. Even if you don’t read it anymore, you may well want to pick this book up for its gorgeous David Finch gatefold cover. This is poster-worthy material here.

Annihilation: Conquest Prologue – After the sleeper hit of last season, in which Annihilus attempted (and nearly succeeded) in taking over the known universe, someone else is trying to take advantage of the now weakened victors of that huge war (those would be the good guys!) and pick up where Annihilus left off. This is gonna be good, people.

Hedge Knight 2: The Sworn Sword #1 (of 6) – The long-awaited sequel to George RR Martin’s Hedge Knight hits the shelves this week! If you’re a fan of Martin’s incredible fantasy series, A Song of Ice and Fire, this limited series is a MUST. And if I haven’t convinced you to be a fan of this series yet, keep coming around til I do – it’s worth it!!!

Incredible Hulk #107 – The gauntlet has been thrown in World War Hulk, and the whole Marvel universe is about to become embroiled in it, whether they want to or not. So far, I’m loving this!

Madame Mirage #1 – Paul Dini, revered Batman writer of many years, is debuting a new character of his own. Mirage is a film noir police procedural with a female Houdini/David Copperfield type of character for the lead. It’s a unique mix, but in Dini’s hands, I’m positive it will be awesome. I’m really looking forward to this!

Tales from the Crypt #1 - Any big fans of the Crypt Keeper out there? If so, you're gonna want to get your hands on this comic! If you're too young to know who that is and what Tales of the Crypt is, it's kind of like a horror movie with a running comedic commentary. If you like Marvel Zombies, you may want to check this out!

Ultimate Spider-Man #110 – This is the end of an era, folks. Mark Bagley is stepping down from the artistic chores on this book after a record-setting 110 consecutive issues. I don’t know how this will affect the quality of the book, but this final issue of his promises a hard-hitting conclusion to one of the most twisted storylines to every hit the pages of Ultimate Spidey, so this is going to be one heck of an issue.

X-Men: Endangered Species (One-Shot) – After House of M and Decimation, the world’s mutant population was reduced from millions to a couple hundred. That’s barely enough to sustain the species of Homo Superior, so mutants have literally become an endangered species. Being the type of folks they are, they’re not going to take this lying down (though, ironically, that’s the best way to ensure the survival of the species). Led by the X-Men, mutants are going to try to claw their way back into the game.

Variant Covers – As you can see from the list above, we’ve got a fair number of variant covers coming in, some more pricey than others. If you’re dying to get your hands on one of these variant covers, let me know ASAP, because they’re going to go fast!

Avengers Classic #1 - A new ongoing Marvel series in the mold of X-Men Classics features reprints of The Avengers beginning with the original issue #1, along with brand-new back-up stories featuring the team in the era of the classic feature story, along with a special bonus story in the debut issue. This issue features a cover by Arthur Adams, an original back-up story by Dwayne McDuffie and Mike Oeming, and that special extra back-up tale written by Stan Lee and drawn by Kevin Maguire. If you want to know all about your favorite Avengers and where they come from, this is the way to do it. Yes, Erik, I’m talking to you.

Black Diamond #1 - Fifty years from now, an elevated highway spans the nation. Initially a response to international terrorism, the US government grounds commercial airline flights and builds THE BLACK DIAMOND, a dangerous road full ofgearheads and misfits, drug runners and grey-market tech heads, all driving illegal 1970s muscle cars in a nomadic, breakneck existence. But when the government decides to clean up THE BLACK DIAMOND and when his wife is kidnapped to be used as a hostage by forces loyal to the road, Dr. Don McLaughlin, DDS, has to borrow his brother-in-law's illegal1973 Mercury Cougar to get on the highway and rescue his wife... 150 feet above and 100 miles an hour faster than anything he's ever known. If you enjoyed the brief life of the TV show Drive, you’ll definitely want to check this out.

Marvel Illustrated: Treasure Island #1 – The tale of young John Hawkins and the infamous Long John Silver, of pirates and buried treasure, of friendship and betrayal – this is a fantastic story, and I’m thrilled that Marvel has added it to their Marvel Illustrated line. If you never read the book or saw the very good Disney movie adaptation, this will be a great way to check out this awesome story.

Strangers in Paradise #90 – Goodbye Francine, Katchoo, and David! This is the final issue of this loyalty-inspiring series, and we wish creator Terry Moore well. Good luck! Can’t wait to see what you’re working on next!

Sub-Mariner #1 – Namor is back! It’s been a while since he had his own series. Hopefully, this time, they can keep it relevant to the rest of the Marvel Universe and avoid the temptation to Aquaman him. In this new series, what appears to be a sleeper cell of Atlanteans commits a terrorist act in the American heartland, and the series kicks off with Namor trying to piece together who really did this and why. All indications are that this is really good, so get in on the ground floor!!

Tarzan HCs and TPBs – Back in the day, comics just didn’t get much better than Joe Kubert’s run on Tarzan at DC. His Tarzan was a no-nonsense, take-no-prisoners kind of guy, and he was, by far, one of the most memorable incarnations of the character ever to see print. If you’ve always kind of liked Tarzan and really wanted to enjoy it, check out these classic stories – you’ll be glad you did. Of course, you’ll have to beat me to them!

World War Hulk #1 (of 5) – FINALLY! The Hulk is back and he is angry. After being catapulted into space by the Illuminati, betrayed by some of the people he called friends, Hulk is back to set the record straight…and make them all pay for what they’ve done. Last year’s Civil War story has nothing on this world-shattering tale. Hulk doesn’t care which side anybody was on in Civil War, he just wants vengeance. This book is going to FLY off the shelves, so pick yours up fast, because reorders are going to be impossible to come by!

Avengers: Initiative #3 – Originally intended as a limited series, this has been expanded into a surprisingly good ongoing book. This is basically the training academy for new recruits to Iron Man’s 50 State Initiative program, and it has been an awesome read so far. Cool new characters have been introduced, some terrible things have happened, and there have been several cover-ups. Finding out who knows what is part of the intrigue in this book, and the fact that so much of this is exactly what Captain America feared it would become makes this a fantastic series. Check it out!

Black Diamond Detective Agency SC – Mixing a mystery that keeps you guessing until the very end with great action sequences and compelling characters, The Black Diamond Detective Agency may have been intended for the screen, but it’s hard to imagine how the story will ever surpass the treatment it receives here. Set in the Chicago or 1899, you can practically smell the Chicago air as you follow John Hardin through an awesome film noir feeling life or death battle of wits.

Detective Comics #833 – Even when Paul Dini takes a break every four or five issues, this series is still the best of the Batman titles out there right now. If you’ve always kind of liked Batman but didn’t know where to start picking up his books, this is a great place to start!

MPD Psycho vol 1 TP – Based on the Japanese TV series, mixing sci-fi, ultra-violence and horrific serial killers. As you all know, this isn’t the sort of thing I ordinarily recommend, but, hey, it’s got ultra-violence and serial killers, I figure any fans of Garth Ennis’ The Boys ought to love it! Yeah, I’m one of those fans…

Mystic Arcana: Book of Marvel Magic – Gaze into a crystal ball…consult the stars…or obsess over leftover tea leaves. All signs point to the imminent arrival of the latest and most mesmerizing addition to the OFFICIAL HANDBOOK series! This volume includes in-depth bios on the miraculous mixture of mighty mystics (Zhered Na, the Shadow Queen) and mysterious misfits (Papa Shorty and Pro-Rata!) that make up the magnificent menagerie of marvel magic! If you want to know more about Marvel’s magical people, this is the place to get the scoop!

New Warriors #1 – Wait a minute – aren’t they all dead? Who the heck is running around tagging Iron Man’s Avengers Initiative propaganda posters with New Warriors logos? Why? Someone is gift-wrapping super-villains for the police. Someone is defacing Superhuman Registration posters. Someone is raising eyebrows all around town -- from City Hall to Tony Stark's war chamber. And the only clue to their identity? Two spray-painted letters: N.W. Who are these mysterious young upstarts that have dared to fight the powers-that-be? And what do they want from a de-powered mutant named Sofia? Are the New Warriors truly back from the dead? Or has something new risen from the ashes of Stamford? Nah, I don’t know either, but I can’t wait to find out. Right now, I’m interested in anyone who pokes a finger in Tony Stark’s eye.

See you at Haven!
