Astonishing X-Men #22 – Joss Whedon and John Cassaday’s run on Astonishing X-Men is drawing to a close with issue #24, so that means it’s getting down to crunch time for our heroes! They’re on the Break World and it looks like the Break World prophecy may actually be true – Colossus may be the destroyer of their world. Hmm…oh, and after Joss’s run on this story is done, who takes over? None other than Warren Ellis. Oh, yeah, the news can be that good.

Batman/Lobo: Deadly Serious #1 (of 2) – Batman + Lobo + Sam Keith = a weird fraggin’ book. This ain’t my cup of tea, but if it’s yours, then snap up this book quick, because I don’t have a whole lot of them coming in.

Bushi Tales #1 – At first glance, this is a historical samurai story, a la Samurai: Heaven & Earth. Then you get a little further in and discover it’s actually set 1,000 years in our future. The gods of myth and legend and have returned, and so has bushido, the way of the samurai, mystical chi, and monsters – oh, yeah – lots of monsters. This was originally an online comic that has since been self-published by its creators. Unlike many self-published efforts, this looks like a professional job all the way through – give it a shot!

Halo Uprising #1 (of 4) - The One Man Army Wages War in Halo Uprising! The Eisner Award-winning team of writer Brian Bendis and artist Alex Maleev are back to bring you one of the most anticipated new series of the year—Halo: Uprising! Based on the hit video game series, but perfect for fans both new and old, Halo: Uprising #1 begins the tale of the heroic Master Chief’s struggle to reach Earth before the evil Covenant’s engines of war get there first! Set in the time period between Halo 2 and Halo 3, Halo: Uprising answers all those questions that fans have been asking for years, and introduces new characters into the Halo mythos! If sales on the Halo graphic novel are any indication, then this series is going to move fast. Pick it up early!

In Her Darkest Hour 1-Shot - Lisa is a young girl on the brink of suicide. Living alone in a town with no family and no friends, she has fallen into despair. Can her newfound friend Joshua convince her that life is worth living, or will she fall to the embrace of death in her darkest hour? Brilliant, newly discovered artist Fernanda Chiella has created one of the most visually stunning and emotionally gripping freshman efforts in years. Hers is a name we'll be hearing more from in years to come.

Mouse Guard: Winter 1152 #1 (of 6) – The last Mouse Guard series kind of flew in under the radar, surprising everything with its high quality art and fabulous story. This time around, there’s no excuse! Everyone needs to pick this book up ASAP! Yeah, I know, it’s not your standard comic book size/shape, but it still kicks tail (pun intended). Check this out!

Thunderbolts #116 – I can’t stress enough how incredible Warren Ellis’ run on Thunderbolts has been and continues to be. This series specializes in taking old, throw-away characters no one cares about and turning them into awesome characters everyone wants to read more of. And Mike Deodato, Jr.’s art continues to impress me too. This is a must read.

World War Hulk: Gamma Corps #2 (of 4) – The first issue introduced us to the Gamma Corps, that group of mutated misfits specifically irradiated with the same Gamma that made the Hulk what he is, and these people come in all shapes and sizes and they all have a singular mission: destroy the Hulk. Oh, and they may just have the power to actually do it. Sweet. The first issue was surprisingly good, and I expect more of the same out of this issue. Good stuff.

See you at Haven!
