Adolescent Radioactive Black Belt Hamsters #1 – When Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles first hit the stands, there was nothing like them out there. But, soon, along came their counterparts in the mammalian world, the Adolescent Radioactive Black Belt Hamsters! This was a flukey little book that actually gained some popularity back in the day before fading into obscurity. Now, they’re back! No doubt new and improved and, maybe, better than ever! In any event, this should be a fun read and a good laugh; these guys definitely have a sense of humor!

Captain America #34 – Is this the new Captain America? Well, it sure ain’t the old one. Yes, this is the issue where Marvel introduces the new Cap – presumably Bucky, since they’ve kind of been building in that direction lately – and his new outfit. Much as it sickens me, this is going to sell very, very fast; so if you want one, better get down to the shop early on Wednesday!!

Project Superpowers #0 - From the dawn of the 20th Century came a new chapter in mankind's history, unleashed during a time of great, war and destruction. It was the beginning of the Age of the SUPERPOWERS, yet with the closing of the Second World War, this new spark seemingly flickered and died. Until now...Now the story can be told of the great lost SUPERPOWERS -- men and women with incredible abilities who changed the course of mankind forever...and who had been thought lost...Until now...

Now, DYNAMITE ENTERTAINMENT and Alex Ross unleash PROJECT SUPERPOWERS! This explosive #0 issue features a story crafted by Justice collaborators Alex Ross and Jim Kruger, joined by artists Stephen Sadowksi, Doug Klauba and additional art by Alex Ross. The story of PROJECT SUPERPOWERS begins here, in the present day with the Fighting Yank, coming to terms with the ghosts of his past and present! As our story unfolds, we journey to the heights and depths of the Second World War and come face-to-face with the great forgotten heroes of the ages, and solve the mystery of where these legends disappeared to after the great war. All this, for only a buck! Definitely check this out…

Spider-Man: With Great Power #1 (of 5) - Meet Peter Parker, 'Midtown High's only professional wallflower,' a hapless young nerd suddenly gifted with great power…no strings attached! Happy at home with his Aunt May and Uncle Ben, but plagued by the bullies and mean girls of high school, see what Peter does when the bite of a radioactive spider gives him the strength to take the things he wants. Fame? Money? Fast cars? Girls? This dweeb's up to his pencilneck in 'em! Surely things can't suddenly be this easy… It's a side of Spider-Man's early life you've barely glimpsed, written by David Lapham (Stray Bullets TERROR, INC.) with art by Tony Harris (Ex Machina)!

Y The Last Man #60 – Yep, this is it! The last issue of this landmark series is upon us. Yorick and company reach the end of their journey in this very special 48-page issue – so check it out to see how it all ends!

Young Avengers HC – When the Young Avengers first showed up on the scene, I figured they were probably pretty stupid. I know you’ll all be surprised by this, but, sometimes, I’m wrong. I was wrong about these guys. The Young Avengers turned out to be one of the best comics of the past few years. This hardcover is absolutely, most definitely a must. If you haven’t read this book and you’re a superhero fan of any stripe, you’ll enjoy this book!

See you at Haven!

Amazing Spider-Man #547 - AMAZING! In this premiere month, Spidey's new status quo gets a swift punch in the gut as Dan Slott (SHE-HULK; AVENGERS: THE INITIATIVE) and super-star artist Steve McNiven (CIVIL WAR) hit the ground running with new villains, new friends, and some familiar faces that promise to make Peter's life messier than ever before. This is where it's all happening, according to Marvel's press release on this book.

I read the previous issue of this series, the first in the Brand New Day storyline, and I’ve got to be honest: IF you can forget the rampant stupidity that got them to this point, IF you can ignore the utterly insipid, moronic, imbecilic way the story got here, this book is surprisingly good. It really is like stepping back 25 or 30 years and picking up a Spider-Man story fresh from the printers. The new status quo is pretty much the old status quo: web shooters instead of organic webbing, Pete has no money and is scrounging for a living, the whole works. I’m almost afraid to admit it, but I actually liked the story. It’s a little hard to tell what’s what anymore, since so many things have changed (the Civil War and Initiative happened, for example, but Spidey never revealed his identity; Harry Osborn isn’t dead, etc.). We’ll see if they can maintain it, but, like I said, if you can ignore the idiotic way the story got here, this is actually good.

Countdown Special: The New Gods - Written by Jack Kirby Art by Kirby, Mike Royer & Vince Colletta Cover by Ryan Sook The newest 80-page Special revealing past tales related to the main characters of COUNTDOWN sheds light on the New Gods! Included here are the Kirby masterpieces MISTER MIRACLE #1, FOREVER PEOPLE #1, and NEW GODS #7! This is some old-school goodness, people!

Incredible Hercules #113 – Don’t remember the first 112 issues of this series? Well, this is really the Incredible Hulk #113, but, since the Hulk is currently in a secret, maximum security hidey-hole, somebody had to take over the title, and who better than Herc?! Worried it’s not going to be good? Don’t be. Greg Pak, author of the whole Planet Hulk and World War Hulk saga of the past several years, is carrying on the story right from where World War Hulk left off. This is going to be good, folks!

New Exiles #1 - Beginning a new era for the Exiles - with a new team, and a new mandate, to safeguard the fate and future of the Omniverse: new leader, new members, new worlds, new adversaries. They've barely begun to get to know one another when they're thrust into their first mission - summoned to a world where the dawn of the historic Marvel Age turns out instead to be a prelude to global catastrophe. Meanwhile, back at the Crystal Palace, Sage struggles with a psychic curse that may well make her the new team's greatest liability. Can’t wait to see Tom Grummett back on pencils on a good book!

Stranded #1 - Continuing the premiere title in the new Virgin/SciFi imprint, created and written by Mike Carey (X-MEN, Ultimate Fantastic Four). What if your past, everything you knew, was a lie - a cover story for your true past on another world? As the Stranded's true memories resurface, they face the final showdown with their deadly enemy Janus. But now, the greatest threat to their survival may come from one of their own. And even if Janus falls, his masters -- The Forgotten -- have only begun their campaign of extermination.

Trailer extravaganza

Several new comic book movie trailers have appeared online recently.

The Dark Knight
Hellboy 2: The Golden Army
Speed Racer (not technically a comic movie, but it's in the same vein)

2008 is shaping up to look like a pretty good year.
