Amazing Spider-Man #547 - AMAZING! In this premiere month, Spidey's new status quo gets a swift punch in the gut as Dan Slott (SHE-HULK; AVENGERS: THE INITIATIVE) and super-star artist Steve McNiven (CIVIL WAR) hit the ground running with new villains, new friends, and some familiar faces that promise to make Peter's life messier than ever before. This is where it's all happening, according to Marvel's press release on this book.

I read the previous issue of this series, the first in the Brand New Day storyline, and I’ve got to be honest: IF you can forget the rampant stupidity that got them to this point, IF you can ignore the utterly insipid, moronic, imbecilic way the story got here, this book is surprisingly good. It really is like stepping back 25 or 30 years and picking up a Spider-Man story fresh from the printers. The new status quo is pretty much the old status quo: web shooters instead of organic webbing, Pete has no money and is scrounging for a living, the whole works. I’m almost afraid to admit it, but I actually liked the story. It’s a little hard to tell what’s what anymore, since so many things have changed (the Civil War and Initiative happened, for example, but Spidey never revealed his identity; Harry Osborn isn’t dead, etc.). We’ll see if they can maintain it, but, like I said, if you can ignore the idiotic way the story got here, this is actually good.

Countdown Special: The New Gods - Written by Jack Kirby Art by Kirby, Mike Royer & Vince Colletta Cover by Ryan Sook The newest 80-page Special revealing past tales related to the main characters of COUNTDOWN sheds light on the New Gods! Included here are the Kirby masterpieces MISTER MIRACLE #1, FOREVER PEOPLE #1, and NEW GODS #7! This is some old-school goodness, people!

Incredible Hercules #113 – Don’t remember the first 112 issues of this series? Well, this is really the Incredible Hulk #113, but, since the Hulk is currently in a secret, maximum security hidey-hole, somebody had to take over the title, and who better than Herc?! Worried it’s not going to be good? Don’t be. Greg Pak, author of the whole Planet Hulk and World War Hulk saga of the past several years, is carrying on the story right from where World War Hulk left off. This is going to be good, folks!

New Exiles #1 - Beginning a new era for the Exiles - with a new team, and a new mandate, to safeguard the fate and future of the Omniverse: new leader, new members, new worlds, new adversaries. They've barely begun to get to know one another when they're thrust into their first mission - summoned to a world where the dawn of the historic Marvel Age turns out instead to be a prelude to global catastrophe. Meanwhile, back at the Crystal Palace, Sage struggles with a psychic curse that may well make her the new team's greatest liability. Can’t wait to see Tom Grummett back on pencils on a good book!

Stranded #1 - Continuing the premiere title in the new Virgin/SciFi imprint, created and written by Mike Carey (X-MEN, Ultimate Fantastic Four). What if your past, everything you knew, was a lie - a cover story for your true past on another world? As the Stranded's true memories resurface, they face the final showdown with their deadly enemy Janus. But now, the greatest threat to their survival may come from one of their own. And even if Janus falls, his masters -- The Forgotten -- have only begun their campaign of extermination.
