Mansions of Madness

Mansions of Madness is a new horror-themed board game from Fantasy Flight Games, the same company that produces Arkham Horror. Players work together to explore a haunted house (the layout of which changes from game to game), kill monsters, and discover dread secrets. Meanwhile the keeper works against the players, summoning creatures, casting spells, and persuing his own nefarious goals.

I ran a couple games of MoM for our Havenween party. It takes a while to set up, but gameplay is smooth and, with only one die to roll, a breeze to pick up. It comes with some good-looking miniatures and has several clever mechanics. A favorite of mine is that, when confronted with a locked door or some such, a player doesn't just make an intelligence roll. Instead, she has to solve actual logic puzzles, getting as many chances as she has intelligence points.

Mansions of Madness is great for people ready for a challenging game and Lovecraftian horror. It's available now at Haven. Come in and check it out.
